There are many interesting events in the novel The Potato People by Angela Wright. One of the interesting events occurs when Patrick Flynne meets Marie for the first time.
He hears a voice coming from the other side of the road
He looks up and invites the girl to share his bread. He can see that the girl is a gipsy girl of about his age. The girl sits next to him and he gives half of his bread to her. She looks so happy as she finishes her bread.
This is an interesting event because it shows Patrick’s kindness towards Marie. Even though Patrick himself is starving, he is willing to share his bread because he is kind and generous. Marie appreciates Patrick’s kindness and generosity by saying “That was beautiful. You must have been sent by an angel. I was so hungry.”
The event is memorable as it is the beginning of their relationship. Later on Marie helps and guides Patrick in their escape to America. They manage to find jobs and wealth in America, and get married. This event is interesting and memorable to me because of those reasons.
