Event 4 – Day 1 (night)
The news of the pearl has spread all over the town.
Kino’s house is full of villagers wanting to see the pearl’
Kino speaks of his dreams. He wants to buy new clothes, get married in the church, buy a rifle and send Coyotito to school.
People wonder at Kino’s sudden transformation.
Event 5 – Day 1 (night)
The priest comes to Kino’s house upon hearing the news.
He says that Kino is named after a great man.
He asks what he would like to do with the money.
Kino says that he wants to get married in the church.
The priest reminds Kino not to forget to give alms to the church.
Event 6 – Day 1 (night)
The doctor comes to Kino’s house with his servant.
At first Kino refuses to let the doctor into house.
But when told the scorpion bite has a strange effect he lets the doctor in.
The doctor says that the poison has gone in but he’ll try to treat Coyotito.
He works a capsule and forces it down Coyotito’s throat.
He says that he will back after an hour to check on the baby.
The baby becomes sick.
The doctor comes back after an hour and gives medicine to Coyotito.
He asks when Kino can pay for the treatment.
Kino states that he will pay after he has sold the pearl.
Event 7 – Day 1 (midnight)
Kino wakes from his sleep sensing scratching sound from the corner of his house.
He springs and stabs the figure with his knife.
He feels a hard blow on his head and blood flows down from his head.
Juana helps clean the wound.
Juana asks Kino to throw away the pearl as it will destroy their family.
Kino refuses saying that the pearl is their only chance to free themselves from the oppression that is holding them down.
